Tarawih prayers are prayed in pairs of two and can be prayed between 8-20 raka‘at. This prayer is performed only during Ramadan of the Islamic calendar after solat of Isha. Tarawih prayers are considered optional, not obligatory.
Qiyam means 'standing' and ‘Qiyam al-Layl’ means 'standing at night'. It refers to 'the voluntary night prayer, whose time extends after the Isha prayer (the last of the five obligatory prayers, whose time extends from the disappearance of the reddish light in the sky until the middle of the night) until dawn.’
