The mosque was opened to the public in 2006 to serve the needs of the Muslim community around the Bishan area. Built under the Mosque Building Fund (MBF) scheme and can accommodate about 4,000 people, the mosque complex also houses Harmony Centre where visitors can learn about the Muslim community and Islam as practiced in multi-cultural Singapore.
Being the first of its kind in a Singapore mosque, the 2-storey Harmony Centre showcases exhibits, artifacts and information on Islamic civilisation and lifestyle. Contemporary issues in Islam and Inter-faith understanding will also be a feature at the Centre through talks and activities.
