Built in 1983 under the Mosque Building Fund (MBF) scheme, the mosque located at the junction of Tampines Road and Hougang Ave 3, stands out prominently next to high-rise residential flats with its box-like structure and tall minaret. It serves the religious needs of residence in surrounding Hougang area. The mosque had undergone a major upgrading in 2006 which increased its capacity to 2,500 worshippers. It offers daily kindergarten and madrasah classes.
In 2019, it was announced that the mosque also houses the new initiative, Family and Inmates Through-care Assistance Haven (Fitrah) programme, which provides services such as religious counselling to help rehabilitate and reintegrate Muslim ex-offenders into society.
