Al-Ansar Mosque

The history of the mosque began in 1974 when a meeting was held among a few Muslim community leaders within the area. They wanted a mosque to be built in the estate. Majority of the Muslim residents of Bedok were originally resettled from Changi and Telok Paku areas affected by the development of Changi Airport, and those from the Geylang Serai, Kampung Ubi and Eunos areas that made way for urbanisation. With much effort and fundraising, the mosque was finally built and officially opened in 1981 by thenMinister in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Dr Ahmad Mattar.

In 2012, the mosque was selected for major upgrading under Phase 1 of the Mosque Upgrading Programme (MUP). The entire mosque, except its minaret – now repurposed as a lift and heritage wall – was demolished to make way for a brand new building. The mosque reopened in 2015.
